Quality of Life
Parks and Recreation
When relocating to a new community, newcomers always look for places to spend their time such as parks or other recreational facilities. In Hammond there are a variety of fun spots whether you want to go for a stroll, work up a sweat or just relax. There are four great locations of which to take notice.

CATE SQUARE PARK
Cate Square Park is a quaint neighborhood park in the heart of Downtown Hammond. Just walking distance from several apartment complexes, restaurants, shops and the local post office, the park provides a landscaped gazebo, recreation field, picnic tables and a gated playground area for children. Year round you will find local bands playing, 5k runs, pet adoptions and even weddings.

ZEMURRAY PARK
Looking for a larger, more traditional community park? Zemurray Park offers walking trails, a pond, playground equipment, a basketball court, tennis courts, a public swimming pool and baseball fields. One might even take a ride on the park's miniature train or view decorative light displays during the winter holidays.

Unique to Zemurray Park is Hammond’s Dreamland Skatepark, a public recreational area where both professionals and novices practice and trade tricks. And, if you forget your board or if the deck gets snapped while perfecting that kick flip or boardslide the local skate shop is just around the corner.

NORTH OAK PARK
Adjacent to Southeastern Louisiana University (SLU) is North Oak Park. Like Zemurray Park, it offers walking trails, a pond, playground equipment and baseball fields. Additionally, you can find splash pads for a cool and refreshing retreat during those hot summer months as well as fitness spots along the walking trails to help you break a good sweat!

And don't forget to visit SLU. Park trails easily connect to the university's campus, allowing for longer running distances that are free of heavy traffic.

ORANGE STREET PARK
Lastly, but certainly not least, Orange Street Park is a great fenced in community park, surrounded by one of Hammond's residential communities. It has been recently renovated to include modern playground equipment for the kids as well as an active basketball court, baseball field and covered pavilion. Having fun in Hammond is only a few blocks away!
